spearfishing in ireland

does anybody know if spearfishing is allowed in Ireland? are there special shops there to buy underwater gun? thank you in advance please help!

Yes, it is allowed and can apparently be very good.
One guy I know spears in south and in Donegal.
No idea of the shops. Better take your own with you or buy one before the trip. Dive gear is very expensive in the isles.

Basically all sea areas are legal unless specifically protected.
I think that freshwater spearing is illegal in Ireland.

Close to Cork and Donegal are known as good places. I think the whole western coast can be good.

Visit deeperblue.net and ask more there as there are mamy Irish blokes there.

Hello Edik and Mikko!

I have just begun to spearfish in on the east coast (Dublin).

i have not been able to find Spearguns or spares anywhere in my country, so you will have to bring your own!-(still waiting for new bands)

I also think the spearing of Salmon or sea-trout is illegal in ireland and freshwater spearfishing is illegal.

Spearguns tend to alarm people over here , although they are legal.

hi lads
just found this forum topic
there's a lovely place by the hook head lighthouse co. wexford
plenty of fish to hunt, some seals to dive with too
generally good visibility (8-10m) but mind the strong currents!
i live in waterford city so i usually go to tramore (guillamenes) or further down along the coast towards dungarvan but water is not as clear as on the hook...
there's a sport & angling centre in waterford where u can get some guns
