4.6.2005 Dödörens Cup, Finland

Postby Maza » 6.6.2005 1:03:26

So I woke up at 09.00 am and I looked out from the window. Shit, the sea fog was so strong that I even could not see the other side of the market. Tage was of course already selling the fish. He woke up 4 oclock at the morning picked up the nets. He got 20 Perch and lot of small Breams in front of the Kappelisatama.

I went to talk to Tage and we were wondering how was the weather going to be. It seemed that the competition day would be the most shitty of all spring. Anyway I knew that it will be Flat Fish competition so I really dosent matter. If the sky would be clear and sunny there would be more swimming fish close to the shore. But today was going to rain like....

All the competitators came on time so we went to Dödören at 12.00 pm The competiton was starting at 12.30 pm and it would end 17.00 pm.

I was counting on Flat Fish and flat Fish only. I started to swim on the nort side of Dödören. The Flat Fish were there at 3-6 meters mainly on the plain sand. My competition started well because after 1 hour I was having all ready 18 Flat Fish. The wind was really rising so I was thinking that I will swim against the current now when I do not have too many fishes at my boye. Flat Fish were almost every where where was clean sand. I also saw one group of Perch but they were too scary. I also saw one small Trout and one White Fish tail. But I have learned that the competitions are not places to enjoy the marine life. Competition is time to collect the fish points. Anyway I think that next year at Dödörens Cup would be good to have limit for Flat Fish.

After 2 and half hour I decided to swim totally other side of the competition zone. So I swam with the current all the way to Stenskär. The last 400 meters were really heavy because I was having all ready about 30 Flat Fish in the boye and the current turned against me. I met mr. Levonen at the Stenskär and then I realised that the competition is not over. There was super many Flat Fish at the bottom and Levonen had been there a lone for long time. So I was pumping like machine.

The competitions are defeated usually in the last hour because then the tactics and the fysical conditions are tested the most. I was really fighting and also the new ranking point system in giving me the motivation. So I was totally out of energy when I landed in the heavy rain to the goal. I was having more than 60 Flat Fish. In the fish weighting the 55 was counted.
Luckily I beated mr. Levonen with couple of Flat Fish.

The Dödören 2005 was hard competition which was earned by fysical power and knowledge of Flat Fish life. Now a little pause from spearfishing and super party at Casino of Hanko!
